The idea of ratchet strap chaps came to me one day in preparation for a camping/fishing trip. I was loading the truck with all necessary supplies for a much needed getaway. The fishing boat was hitched up and ready to go. I proceeded to strap down the load with the old trusty ratchet straps, and then it happened! I had hooked the strap hook to one side of the load and tossed the rest of the strap to the other side. I made my way to the other side, hooked the hook and began taking up the slack but it was not tightening and we all know why. The frustration did not come from a one time little issue of my ratchet strap hook having come loose, it was the fact that it was the one millionth time that this had happened to me. I think I used a few tie wraps to temporarily keep the hooks in place for that trip but then began the journey to find a permanent solution for this all too common problem.

I began making working prototypes of a few different ideas. I researched and refined my thoughts. Then I recalled a few years earlier while helping a friend with a trailer that the safety chain hooks on the trailer had a device made of a rubber material that held its hook in place. So that was the basis for my design for ratchet strap Chaps. As my design works for both type hooks I put 10 Chaps in each package. 8 that will accessorize a pack of 4 new ratchet straps and 2 left for your trailer safety chains or 2 spares, your call.
